Artist's Statement

I received my first art lessons when I was around three.  My mother taught me how to draw simple shapes and turn them into animals.  From then on I could entertain myself for hours drawing animals on my tablet with pencil.

In high school, I was introducced to oils.  Over the years, I have tried several types of media, but I always return to oils because they are ideal to build the sculptured effects I frequently incorporate into my coral reefs or rocky landscapes. Oils vibrant colors are perfect to interpret those of the reef, the tropical forest, and the waters of The Gulf of Mexico

Subject
Subject matter for my painting reflects what I know best.  As an artist and  former marine biology instructor, my favorite paintings are those scenes found along the shore and beneath the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and in the Caribbean.   Many of my works are of marine life in the coral reef and fauna of the rainforest. Through my paintings, I hope the public will have a better understanding of the need to protect these unique tropical environment .
